Summer is Here! It's Time to Create the Perfect Outdoor Oasis

Hey There Friends..

I hope that everyone is staying healthy and happy and positive in these very unusual times. I have been putting lots of effort into keeping my mind positively engaged, as it's so easy to get caught up in the uncertainty of all that's going on. And it seems that as it's warming up outside, this is SO much easier to do. With pretty much everyone on the planet being stuck inside their homes for the better part of a month now (and in some cases longer), not only are we all going a bit bonkers in our homes, but also just dying for some fresh air and sunshine!

So, today on the blog, I'm posting about another design topic that was requested on Instagram last week about how to create a beautiful outdoor space.

AND THE TIMING COULD NOT BE MORE PERFECT!  With loads of time on our hands and the weather getting warmer, there is literally no better time to think about, play with, and take steps to creating that perfect outdoor space for you and your loved ones... well, and the neighbours, of course!

When thinking about creating the perfect outdoor space, here are some ideas to consider:

1. Think textiles: Creating an outdoor space is a lot like creating an indoor space, so using items like rugs and throw cushions is a super easy way to take some basic outdoor furniture and make it look unique and feel amazing to be surrounded by. And unlike indoor rugs and cushions, outdoor rugs and cushions can be much more easy on the pocket book, and can be changed out each year without too much of an investment, as you can keep the furniture but change the textiles. It's also a great way to add your own personal touch to the space, using colours and patterns that make you feel happy to be surrounded by.

2. Using plants: Plants are something that I use in pretty much all of my indoor design products, but what better place than an outdoor space to use this to your full advantage. Nature makes us feel peaceful, energized and at ease, and playing with different plants, flowers and even planting trees in gardens and potters is a fabulous way to add colour, dimension and feeling to your outdoor space. Choosing flowers based on colour that work with your outdoor textiles is a great place to start.

3. Styling Items: Just as with indoor interior design, using styling items to create little design focal points is a great way to amplify that experience you're looking to capture in your outdoor space. Using items like metal objects, mirrors, pots and even nature structures can really make your outdoor space feel more curated and lovely. You can either search at garden centres, or take a trip to local vinatge markets, or even GoodWill, to find inexpensive previously loved little gems.

4. Layout: How to choose to layout the furniture items in your outdoor space can make all the difference in how much you, your family and your guests enjoy the space. Take a few minutes to think about where you'd like your eyes to go when you sit out there. How can you position the furniture to not only be enjoyable, but also help you to enjoy the natural elements, such as trees, flowers, sky, and get the best few of all these things. Making simple changes to the positioning of furniture is a super easy way to amplify the experience of your outdoor space, and it doesn't cost a thing!
